Western astrology talks about seven visible planets plus Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Vedic astrology includes two more that Western astrology ignores: Rahu and Ketu—the North and South Nodes of the Moon.

These aren't physical planets. They're shadow points—mathematical intersections where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic. No mass, no light, yet they eclipse the Sun and Moon, creating solar and lunar eclipses.

As he drank, the Sun and Moon recognized him and alerted Vishnu, who cut off Svarbhanu's head. But he'd already drunk the nectar—so his head (Rahu) and body (Ketu) became immortal separately.
